The Department of
Pathology includes the sections of Biochemistry, Hematology,
Microbiology, Serology, Histopathology/Cytology and Blood Bank.
Laboratory services are available round the-clock for all NICVD
patients. Routine as well as stat tests are performed including
analysis of arterial blood cases. Anticoagulant clinic tests are
carried out for out patients three times a week. The last decade has
witnessed a four fold increase in the total number of tests
performed by the department.
The department participates in two external quality control
programs.
1. National External Quality Assurance Program Pakistan (NEQAPP)
based at Armed
Forces Institute of Pathology, Rawalpindi.
2. International Quality Assurance Survey, (IQAS), Singapore.
The NICVD blood bank is registered with Sindh Blood Transfusion
Authority. It is also among Safe Blood Transfusion Centers
conducting screening for HIV, HbsAg and HCVa according to WHO
guidelines provided by National of Health Islamabad.
The faculty members participate in the teaching and training
programs for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff at NICVD. They
also provide able guidance to post graduate students in the
laboratory aspects of their research work.
Departmental Head collaborates to conduct lectures/slided seminars
for M.Phil (Pathology) students at BMSI JPMC and for FCPS-II
(Pathology) students at CPSP. |
